Tribute show next week highlighting his amazing recordings of Miles Davis and Monk.
EDIT~!
Nick Southall (Stylus Magazine) on why Teo was so important:
“Behind the scenes, Miles and Teo took the tapes of the In A Silent Way sessions and transformed some beautiful, folk-tinged, melody-driven sets into two exquisite, beguiling and otherworldly pieces of music. Using techniques that pre-dated the proliferation of tape loops, cut-ups, edits and sequencing in rock, pop, hip hop and dance music, Miles and Teo took apart the original recording and reassembled them outside of any traditional or accepted jazz structure or melodic framework. This idea of taking jazz away from its birth, genesis and flowering as a live art and into the studio would soon become standard practice, but in 1969 it was groundbreaking.”

Alice Coltrane passed away on January 12th, 2007. Shortly thereafter, I dedicated an entire broadcast to her recorded legacy. Unfortunately, that broadcast was never recorded — so now, a year later, I am returning to one of my favorite jazz musicians to pay homage to her work a year after her passing in order that it be recorded and disseminated through this website. Eric Dolphy once said that ”music, after it is over, is gone, in the air. You can never capture it again.” Thankfully, that is not entirely true. Join me tonight for a journey though Alice Coltrane’s Impulse! Records discography:
