Ray Bryant was a wonderfully understated pianist whose deep love of the blues allowed him to coax and caress any standard. This quintessential “after-hours” pianist — besides blues, he was well-versed in stride, swing, bop, and gospel — often found himself in the company of such like-minded luminaries as Coleman Hawkins, Tiny Grimes, Charlie Shavers, and Curtis Fuller. Bryant is still active and recording. Jazz Lives has a review of his latest.
